- Heinrich Schütz
Historia der freuden und Gnadenreichen Geburth Gottes und Marien Sohne, Jesu Christi SWV 435
Die sieben Worte Jesu Christi am Kreuz SWV 478
Historia der Auferstehung Jesu Christi SWV 50
A provocation! Two whole hours of music that is all too rarely heard in concert. Here is an opportunity to enter the demanding world of Schütz, which precludes ‘zapping’, which calls for total immersion in order to perceive its refinement of expression, far removed from Latin effusiveness. A world that demands an effort of understanding from the listener. We are very far from the theatrical universe of Vivaldi or Handel, both of whom are much more frequently programmed. This music refuses easy effects, but makes a lasting impact on its listeners.

“With an uncanny tranquillity, a restraint that makes the fantastic atmosphere of the work all the more vivid, Lasserre avoids the pitfall of excessive dramatisation.”

“Here then is a CD on which pomp and splendour mix with pietistic fervour and meditation. A fine introduction to the world of the prolific and inspired Sagittarius.”
Jean-Luc Macia, La Croix (2003)
